As Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) for OptumRx, David works closely with other members of the Clinical Leadership team in setting forth the organization’s overall clinical strategy and shares responsibility for effective execution of that strategy. David provides executive level oversight, accountability, and input into several of the organization’s most important clinical functions.

Additionally, David works cross-functionally with several other areas of OptumRx and its sister Optum organizations in helping to drive overarching organizational goals and objectives relative to Growth and Retention; Operational Excellence; and Client Satisfaction.

Prior to his current position, David served as the Chief Pharmacy Officer at Catamaran, which was the nation’s 4th largest pharmacy benefit management (PBM) companies before being acquired by Optum in 2015. Before that, David served as Chief Clinical Officer at MedMetrics Health Partners, a small regionally-based PBM in Worcester, MA. He has also held managed care clinical pharmacy leadership roles at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care in Wellesley, MA, and with CareGroup, a Boston-based integrated health system.

David holds both a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and a Master of Health Professions degree from Northeastern University, where he currently maintains academic appointment as assistant clinical professor in the University’s Bouvé College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences.

David is an active member of several professional organizations including the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP), where he has served in various leadership roles, including a 3-year term as a member of the organization’s Board of Directors.

He maintains a role as clinical editor of the managed care industry periodicals Formulary Watch and Managed Healthcare Executive, and has served as an editorial advisory board member for several other key industry publications. David speaks at numerous healthcare forums and is published on a variety of topics pertaining to pharmacy management in managed healthcare.
