Dr. Betty Tai has been the founding leader of NIDA’s first and largest Clinical research enterprise, the NIDA CTN.  Today, the network The Network has 32 prominent scientific investigators, 82 academic institutions and more than two hundred community-based providers.  Its mission to bridge the gap between research and practice by rapidly translating research into patient care and by elevating the standards of drug abuse treatment through practices that are science based. Under her leadership, the CTN has been recognized, nationally and internationally, for its important contributions to the improvement of SUD treatment.  She has led the network in building coalitions with various stakeholders, establishing a forum for open discussions and consensus building.  Since 2017, Dr. Tai also lead the CTN to address the opioid epidemic via the NIH HEAL initiative with a comprehensive list of research priorities in the areas of prevention, treatment, knowledge dissemination, and workforce development.
