Boston Rises Up Against Addiction at Annual 5K Walk/Run

On Sunday, September 22nd Shatterproof hosted the Rise Against Addiction 5K Walk/Run in Boston, Massachusetts. The second Walk/Run in the 2019 event series, Sunday’s event hosted about 1,650 supporters and participants at Boston’s Franklin Park to honor family and friends lost to the disease of addiction as well as to celebrate those navigating the journey of recovery.
Kelly Cave of The Phoenix led attendees in a warm-up session to start the program. The Phoenix is a “free sober active community has inspired more than 26,000 people across America to believe they have the strength to rise from the ashes of addiction through the support of those who are walking that very same path.”

Speakers included Michael Botticelli, executive director of the Grayken Center for Addiction Medicine at the Boston Medical Center, Martha Temple, CEO of Optum Behavioral Health, Maegan Kenney, Shatterproof Ambassador, and emcee Dr. Mallika Marshall, CBS WBZ.

 Participants kicked off the walk/run by collectively reciting the Shatterproof Pledge, led by Shatterproof founder and CEO, Gary Mendell.
