Shatterproof hosted 2019’s first Rise Up Against Addiction 5K Walk/Run in Chicago on Saturday, September 7th. More than 1,500 supporters gathered at the iconic Soldier Field in honor of the millions of Americans impacted by the disease of addiction and to celebrate those navigating the journey of recovery. Participants started the day with an energizing Zumba warm-up session led by professional dancer and instructor, Fabio Barros. Program speakers included local Shatterproof advocate Marcie Massa, who shared the story of her brother’s battle with addiction, and Blake Cohen, author of “I Love You, More.”
Participants kicked off the walk/run by collectively reciting the Shatterproof Pledge, led by Maurice Reznick, former CEO of Maidenform and current Shatterproof board member, and Bruce Heyman, former U.S. Ambassador to Canada and partner to Goldman Sachs. Sponsors included Allmed, Alkermes, Braeburn, Chubb, Emergent, Hyatt, Goldman Sachs, ICG Advisors, Indivior, J.P. Morgan, Lockton, Plan Against Pain, TC Wealth, and United Health Group.
This fall, Shatterproof will host a total of 7 Rise Up Against Addiction 5Ks around the country. The next event will be on Sunday, September 22nd in Boston, MA. For more information or to register for upcoming events, please visit www.shatterproof5k.org.
