WATCH: Short Film GATEWAY Follows Three Families Through Opioid Addiction

When Shatterproof Ambassador Jennifer Wysong delivered her baby by C-section, she did not know that the painkillers her doctor prescribed would help ignite a years-long struggle with addiction.

Her story is told in a new documentary, GATEWAY. The film follows three families inadvertently impacted by opioid addiction that began with a prescription to manage pain after surgery. The film provides an intimate look into the struggles that can be caused by legal opioid prescriptions when the dangers of these medications are not properly understood. GATEWAY also features Dr. Richard Chudacoff, an OB/GYN who has made it his mission to reduce opioid prescribing by using non-opioid options to manage pain after surgery, and a mother who lost her 18-year-old son to an overdose after initially being prescribed opioids following sports-injury related surgeries.

On Tuesday, May 19th at 4:30pm EST, we’ll be hosting a virtual discussion with Jen and Dr. Chudacoff to hear more about their involvement in the film and personal connections to addiction. If you enjoyed the film, come prepared with questions for our guests! We'll post more details closer to the event date.
