"The Way Back" Is More Than a Sports Drama. It's Also a Powerful Addiction Tale.

Ben Affleck as Jack, wearing a shirt and tie, talking to a group of young basketball players

Ben Affleck’s new film is more than a moving sports drama. It also offers a realistic, empathetic view of a family dealing with addiction.

“The Way Back” tells the story of Jack (played by Affleck), a former basketball all-star who’s now struggling with alcohol addiction. When Jack is asked to coach his former high school’s basketball team, he’s given the chance to reconnect with his past and find new meaning in his future. But as anyone who’s experienced addiction knows, that journey is filled with challenges. The topic is also personal for Affleck, who's been open about his recovery from an alcohol use disorder.

Check out the film's trailer below, and see it in theaters March 4.
