Shatterproof: Director of Development 
The Director of Development is responsible for managing fundraising efforts in their respective region as well as raising awareness and encouraging community engagement. The Director works with other regional Directors, the Chief Development Officer and Vice President, Development to meet local and national revenue goals. This position reports to the Vice President, Development. 



  • Work with Vice President, Development to build comprehensive fundraising programs in local markets, including peer to peer, event, online, memorial, and major gifts fundraising 
  • Maintain a portfolio of donor prospects, with a particular focus on unrestricted gifts and event sponsorships from corporations, individuals and foundations 
  • Develop independently, and with appropriate staff, strategies for identification, evaluation, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects 
  • Achieve individual and team revenue goals 
  • Manage special events, including the Rise Up Against Addiction 5K Walk/Run, DIY fundraisers and other assigned events to cultivate individual/family participants and top fundraisers, secure and steward sponsorships, and generate new philanthropic opportunities in local communities and assigned region 
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities to grow monthly, annual and/or major donors 
  • Work with leadership to form, develop and manage regional volunteer leadership councils; build a council of influencers that support comprehensive fundraising efforts 
  • Maintain accurate and complete records donor interactions. Ensure that contacts, next steps and tasks, and contact reports are consistently and accurately captured in donor records and central files 
  • Ensure the prompt and proper processing and acknowledgement of donations in a timely manner 
  • In partnership with leadership, prepare fundraising support materials including acknowledgements, proposals, stewardship reports, talking points, agendas, presentations, strategy briefings, general correspondence and other materials as assigned/needed with great attention to detail 
  • Track progress, tactics, trends, financial reports and other measures to analyze and determine success 
  • Utilize and maximize a variety of technology platforms to manage relationships, including but not limited to a Salesforce, Rallybound, project management systems and general business and communication tools 
  • Network with Director of Development colleagues and Coordinators to discuss best practices and share new ideas 

Community awareness and engagement: 

  • In coordination with leadership, identify and cultivate new influential local community members for the purpose of building a fundraising base 
  • Motivate, manage and inspire local volunteers, sponsors and donors 
  • Act as an institutional representative by attending events and meetings and assisting with other fundraising and marketing activities 
  • In partnership with fundraising and marketing leadership, identify and recruit media sponsors, local and national speakers, and influencers 
  • Work to increase organization’s presence, strategic partnerships and brand awareness in the community 
  • Perform other fundraising, marketing and community engagement activities as assigned by Vice President, Development 

Qualifications and Skills Required: 

  • An unparalleled commitment to raising awareness for drug and alcohol addiction in America 
  • Three or more years of professional experience in empowering individuals through fundraising, participating in events, volunteerism, and corporate partnerships 
  • Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to present Shatterproof’s mission and ways to get involved to groups of all sizes 
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting individuals to support an organization 
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize and motivate individuals to achieve goals 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for growth in relationships 
  • Ability to organize time effectively and manage a large number of tasks simultaneously 
  • Initiative and independence, combined with the ability to work well as part of a team 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with variety of constituencies 
  • Knowledge of the community a plus 
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, creativity, independent judgment, attention to detail, accuracy, strong editing skills, and follow-through 
  • Competency in computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet applications 
  • This job is designed to be performed from a remote location. Travel will be required several times a year.
