Matthew Gill

My name is Matt Gill and I am joining Team Shatterproof for my first ever marathon. The Shatterproof mission is very near-and-dear to my heart, and I am honored by the opportunity to help raise money for said mission.

After graduating college, I grew to appreciate running more for a few reasons.

  1. I began to treat it as an escape from stressors in my personal and professional life.
  2. I noticed the profound benefits it provides for my overall mental wellbeing.
  3. I became eager to hit all of these running milestones for the sense of personal accomplishment.

After continuing to learn more about the complex and often misunderstood nature of a substance use disorder, I am honored to join Team Shatterproof and help better shape the dialogue around the disease that has affected so many individuals and families.

Every dollar matters toward treating and supporting those impacted from the disease. My plan is to slowly increase my stamina over time, while being cautious about injuries. To do so, I am going to lean on all of my resources: coaching, marathon training books, etc.

My older sister, Courtney, struggled with a substance use disorder for several years until she tragically passed away in April 2022. This introduced me to Shatterproof, and the important work that Shatterproof does to end the stigma, and end the shame associated with substance use disorder.
