Mike's journey with Shatterproof began after the tragic loss of a fraternity brother during his freshman year at Vanderbilt University. This loss inspired his fraternity to host a fundraising event in honor of their friend, which marked the beginning of Mike's deep connection with Shatterproof.
Mike has since led multiple successful fundraising events, including a philanthropy spike ball tournament, and has become a passionate advocate for our mission. His personal experiences with substance use disorder (SUD) and his commitment to breaking down the stigma around addiction have driven his volunteer work.
Through his involvement with Shatterproof, Mike has gained a greater appreciation for dedicating time to causes beyond his career and social life. He values the important conversations he's had about SUD and the positive impact he's made both within his circle and the larger community.
“Shatterproof is so important because breaking down the stigma around addiction opens up so many avenues for people to get help, whether that means being more open to discussing their mental health and SUD with either close ones or a professional, or being able to actually seek science-based treatment.”
One of Mike's most powerful experiences has been participating in our annual walk, where he and his friends come together to honor the memory of a loved one lost to overdose. These moments of unity and remembrance are incredibly meaningful to him.
