Seckler joins Shatterproof after more than 20 years with Special Olympics.

Kirsten Seckler has been appointed Chief Marketing and Communications Officer of Shatterproof, a new national nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the course addiction crisis facing America.

Seckler has spent the majority of her career using marketing and communications to drive social change and impact. For more than 20 years she was with Special Olympics, most recently as the global Chief Brand and Communications Officer, leading a team throughout the world to creatively shape and challenge perceptions about people with intellectual disabilities through sports, health, youth and school programming, and engagement with the broader public. Through marketing, digital engagement, thought leadership, awareness, events, content, and storytelling, she and her team reframed the Special Olympics brand to be known as a global inclusion movement.

“Kirsten’s extensive nonprofit communications expertise, which include building many successful partnerships and influencer programs, combined with her leadership and marketing skills, and her passion for our mission will undoubtedly help Shatterproof continue to accomplish our goals and create systemic change in our country with regards to substance use disorder,” said Shatterproof founder and CEO, Gary Mendell.

Seckler will be tasked with developing and implementing communication strategies that enhance Shatterproof’s influence and engagement with the general public and key audiences. She will promote and protect the organization’s brand reputation and the visibility of the organization and its leaders. In addition, she will be responsible for creating communications and marketing initiatives to broaden awareness of Shatterproof programs and priorities, including leading a national strategy addressing stigma toward addiction.

“I am inspired by Gary’s leadership, his vision, and the impact Shatterproof has had in a short amount of time. Substance Use Disorder is an undeniably large public health crisis and the stigma surrounding it is also immense. I am honored and excited to be part of an organization that is creating systematic change and to bring hope and change to this overwhelming issue plaguing the United States,” said Seckler.

As Shatterproof grows, Seckler will open the first Washington DC office for the organization.
