The Missouri Legislature today failed to pass SB 314 creating a statewide Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – The Missouri Legislature today failed to pass SB 314 creating a statewide Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). A PDMP is a state database that tracks prescriptions for addictive drugs, including opioids and sedatives. As a result, Missouri remains the only state in the country without a PDMP.

Gary Mendell, the founder and CEO of Shatterproof, released this statement:

“It is absolutely shameful that the Missouri General Assembly has failed to create a statewide Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) despite clear research and evidence that PDMPs save lives. Today should have been a historic day, but instead, Missouri will continue to be the only state in the country without access to a database that allows doctors to make the best, most informed decisions for their patients. Thousands of Missourians’ lives will continue to be unnecessarily at risk.

“State Rep. Holly Rehder deserves special recognition for working tirelessly for several years to champion this bill. Her leadership and persistence are encouraging, but unfortunately, a small number of voices were able to once again block this lifesaving legislation. We call on Governor Grietens to convene a special session as quickly as possible and work with state legislators to ensure the future passage of this bill.”
