WASHINGTON, DC – Shatterproof Founder and CEO Gary Mendell released the following statement on Senate passage of legislation to reduce the opioid crisis:
“I commend the Senate for passing legislation that will move forward a number of important policy areas, including incentivizing health IT adoption for behavioral health providers, expanding access to substance abuse treatment for Medicare and Medicaid patients, and putting an end to the flood of fentanyl coming into the U.S. through international mail.
“As the Senate and House work to negotiate a final bill in the coming days, I strongly urge members to be bold. The bill that members send to President Trump should 1.) Expand the types of providers who can prescribe buprenorphine; 2.) Encourage the use of evidence-based practices from grantees receiving federal dollars; 3.) Address the IMD exclusion by modifying the in-patient cap when multiple forms of MAT are offered; and 4.) Ensure providers check the state prescription drug monitoring program before prescribing a controlled substance and follow CDC prescribing guidelines.”
