My husband had a car accident at the end of 2009, which resulted in three back surgeries, the last one resulting in a bone-to-bone fusion. Throughout all his surgeries, the doctors had him on a lot of pain medication that just kept increasing as he was on it for several years. After his last back operation, he lost his job. So, we no longer had health insurance, as his job had afforded me to be a stay at home mom. After losing his job, he still had the need for pain medication, as he had developed an addiction. This pain medication eventually turned into a methamphetamine addiction, because it was easier to find and cheaper on the streets than pain medication was. He eventually was caught with methamphetamine and sent to prison for two years.
Once he came home I thought we were over the battle and life could go back to normal. I was wrong. His addiction still had a hold on him and would for another year before he finally was able to take back control of his own life.
I am happy to say that he has been in recovery for three years now! He is the father and husband that I remembered from years ago. I still see him struggle at times to beat his addiction but he is doing it every day and I am so proud of him!
I just want to say how proud I am of anyone who beats an addiction! You guys are truly amazing and strong as I have seen with my husband. It is not easy to overcome an addiction and you should be so proud of yourselves! If nobody has told you they are proud of you, I may not know you but I want you to know I am proud of you and keep up the good work. God loves you and is proud of you as well!
