My Mother

Tell us about your (or your loved one's) recovery journey. What has been the most rewarding part?

Addiction has touched my life in many aspects, not only did I lose my mom to addiction but I am also a nurse who works in a clinic where we often prescribe opioids. I feel my personal experience has made a major impact on my job, in many ways my personal experience with addiction has made me a better nurse, more aware, taking more time to educate patient's and their families and working along side with the surgeons to make things as safe as possible.

On February 9, 2017 I received the devasting call I have tried to prepare myself for many years. My mother had lost her battle with addiction, a battle that started with street drugs but ultimately ended with an opioid addiction. Throughout this journey with my mom I have realized what a horrible disease addiction is and how hard recovery really is and through my struggles and hurt I want to share my story to help others not feel so alone during this very tough process.
