My story

Tell us about your (or your loved one's) recovery journey. What has been the most rewarding part?

It took everything from me. To this day I don't have a good relationship with my mother, and because she had him when I was running the streets she kept him even when I got clean. I have been a good mom to these two all there lives and have done right, but she still took him from me literally adopted and all.

Do you have a message for the Shatterproof community?

If you are in recovery please keep going and never look back!!! Key words never look back. I have learned and not so long ago that if you look back on the past it brings you down it puts you in a dark place and that will have you relapse! Be strong!!

My name is Julie and I am 13 years clean from Heroin, with no rehab or NA.... I lost everything but gained a life because of it. My oldest is now raised by my mother which may seem like the best but in all 13 years she isolated him from me and made him now not even care to know me at all. It hurts so deeply to talk to your own son and him be so distant with you because he was never put in your life. I tried every summer every school break for 13 years! It's a constant reminder of my past and one of the only reasons I got clean was for him. In the midst of it all I became a wife and mother of 2 more boys which are 12 and 2......
