My daughter McKenzie died of a heroin overdose on November 13, 2015, at the age of 19. She suffered from severe anxiety, borderline personality disorder, and addiction, but that's not all she was. She was also a very intelligent and insightful young lady. She loved music, drawing, and literature. McKenzie was loyal and loving. She was her brother's best friend, and my confidant. She gave the best advice, always looking out for others, even when she was too sick to look out for herself. I will never be the same since losing her. She is my eldest child—the one who made me a mother, a gift for which I will be forever grateful.
