Tell us how addiction has touched your life.

I became addicted to opioids at the age of 22, and eventually lost everything: my kids, my RN license, career, home, car, etc. I was arrested many times for forging prescriptions and bad checks. I ended up on heroin for a short time. I tried every possible solution: dozens of rehabs, detoxes, and mental hospitals, and thousands of 12-step meetings. I desperately wanted to stop using but nothing worked. AA and NA hurt me much more than helping me. Finally, I found Suboxone, and it saved my life.

I never wanted to be addicted. But I used because I couldn’t stop. I'm fortunate to have a physician who specializes in addiction medicine and believes in long-term Suboxone treatment. If I had diabetes, I might be on insulin for life, so I have no problem taking Sub as long as I live. Without it I would be dead by now. After 20 yrs of misery and desperation, I'm more grateful for Sub and my doctor than I can express. I'm now a full-time grandma and have my family back.
