Congress has included nearly $4 billion in the FY18 spending bill to address the opioid crisis. But a comprehensive strategy is still needed.
WASHINGTON – Shatterproof CEO Gary Mendell issued the following statement after Congress included nearly $4 billion in the FY18 spending bill to address the opioid crisis. The bill funds treatment and prevention programs, critical research, prescription drug monitoring programs and illegal drug enforcement efforts.
“The funding Congress provided will help tackle the crisis, but to truly turn the tide, we need a comprehensive strategy that will save lives. Thousands of Americans whose lives are at risk are desperate for action and our leaders in Washington must move quickly to implement the solutions proven to work. I urge the House and Senate to redouble their efforts to pass important legislation currently working its way through Congress before the August District Work Period, if not sooner.”
