As this law is implemented, Shatterproof will continue to support federal and state partners to ensure these funds translate into real impact — especially in prevention, treatment quality, youth education, and family supports.
This week, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 was signed into law — a milestone that Shatterproof has worked toward for years alongside families, partners, and policymakers — ensuring that lifesaving substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery programs will continue through 2030.
This long-term commitment provides predictability and stability for programs that families, youth, and communities across the country rely on. It reinforces the significant progress made since the SUPPORT Act’s original passage in 2018 — progress Shatterproof helped champion by elevating the voices of families, pushing for quality and accountability in treatment, and driving policy solutions grounded in evidence. Importantly, it increases prevention funding, reflecting a priority Shatterproof has consistently advocated for in both federal and state policy efforts.
By reauthorizing and strengthening these programs, Congress has affirmed that prevention is essential alongside treatment and recovery. Sustained investments will:
-
Expand youth prevention and recovery programs in schools and communities — giving young people the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about substance use.
-
Support families and caregivers with evidence-based resources — empowering parents to have meaningful conversations and recognize early warning signs.
-
Build a stronger SUD treatment workforce, including peer support.
-
Ensure first responders have tools like naloxone to save lives.
-
Strengthen community-based recovery supports like housing and reintegration programs
Prevention works. When young people understand the risks and have the right support systems, we can stop addiction before it takes hold. From our Caregivers Guide to Shatterproof Families to our advocacy for closing loopholes in unregulated substances like Delta-8 THC, Shatterproof is committed to ensuring young people and families have the knowledge and resources to prevent substance use disorder before it starts.
As this law is implemented, Shatterproof will continue to support federal and state partners to ensure these funds translate into real impact — especially in prevention, treatment quality, youth education, and family supports.
