A message from our CEO
Shatterproof is committed to protecting our loved ones from addiction to illicit and prescription drugs, and alcohol, and ending the stigma and suffering of those affected by this disease. Our plan to attack this is simple: Operate our nonprofit like a business, with measurable results in saving lives.
2015 was the second calendar year of operations for Shatterproof. Including accomplishments already achieved in 2016, we have led advocacy campaigns in 11 states—from tightening requirements on prescribers of dangerous opioids, to expanding access to the overdose-reversing medication naloxone. Legislation was passed in all 11 states. We expect these laws will save more than 5,000 lives over the next decade.
In addition, Shatterproof was one of the lead advocates for the CDC Guideline on Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain. With Shatterproof’s help, the Guideline was issued on March 15, 2016. It is expected that full implementation of this Guideline will save a minimum of 10,000 lives each and every year.
Related to ending the unjust stigma of addiction and educating the public, Shatterproof has clearly made an impact in communities across the United States, however nationally the impact to date has been minimal.
Overall, 2015 was a year to be remembered. We ended the year in strong financial condition, with $2,624,409 in net assets. We have united over 65,000 Americans as donors, advocates, and followers. I believe it will be remembered as the year that personal tragedy for so many turned into hope for so many.
My warmest regards,
