The hotel industry has long been a generous supporter of Shatterproof and our mission to end the devastation addiction causes families. To celebrate those companies and individuals who mean so much to us, Shatterproof held our inaugural Hospitality Heroes reception in January at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS), the leading and largest hotel conference in the world. This special evening raised an amazing $580k towards Shatterproof’s mission and honored Thomas Corcoran, President & CEO, TCOR Hotel Partners, and Shatterproof Advisory Board member, who was given the inaugural Hospitality Hero Award.

More than 40 hospitality companies joined Shatterproof in sponsoring this event. Our cause is particularly important to these companies, as studies have shown that the hospitality industry is impacted by addiction at two times the rate of other industries.

Thomas Corcoran is an integral part of uniting the leaders of the hospitality world to reduce the devastation of addiction. “It was my privilege to receive this award, but more importantly to help raise awareness and mission critical funds for Shatterproof,” says Corcoran. “Our industry is disproportionately affected by addiction and helping to end stigma and talk about it at a high visibility event such as ALIS is extremely important.”

Shatterproof founder and CEO Gary Mendell, who is a former hotel executive, was touched by the incredible support of the hotel industry. ”I could not be more grateful for my peers’ commitment to our cause. These leaders of the hospitality world embody the industry’s resolute support of ending the stigma of addiction,” said Mendell.

Gary regularly attended the ALIS conference in his 25 year long career in the hospitality industry. In 2016 and 2017, Shatterproof hosted the Shatterproof Challenge Rappel alongside ALIS which raised over $1.6 million dollars. Since 2016, the hospitality industry has raised over $2 million dollars for Shatterproof at events at ALIS—and we are so thankful for their commitment to this cause.
