It touches me on a daily basis because of my acute awareness of the effect of alcoholism and addiction on all aspects of society.
I am a mother, a daughter, a wife, a sibling, a counselor, and a woman in long term recovery. Before the age of 18, I was addicted to every illegal drug there was. By age 26, I got sober. I am an alcoholic and suffer from addiction. For many years, I was full of shame about my early struggles with drugs and alcohol. Three decades later I realize my dark past is my greatest gift. Overcoming addiction has made me the compassionate, empathetic woman I am today. My experience, strength, hope, and honesty about my story has allowed me to help many people.
